The Beginning
I grew up in beautiful Connecticut, where I still visit as often as I can. Apparently, I liked lollipops but didn’t share with dogs back then.
When I was big enough, I rode my bike to the library two or three times a week. Books carried me outside of my little town and urged me to wonder, What if…
Even though it was nerdy to be a bookworm, I was one! My favorite memory was coming home from the library with a stack of books, stretching out on a lounge chair with my brown bag lunch and reading until my mom called me to dinner. Books were my favorite friends then, and they still are today.
Ever since I can remember, I loved writing letters. Words popped out of my heart and onto the page. That’s when I learned that my own words had power.

SORT OF ALL GROWN UP
Playing school was a favorite pastime as a kid. When I grew up, I got to “play school” for real. My imagination inspired the best teacher in me. From writing plays to building a space shuttle to having “Wacky Witch” cast spells on our classroom, my creativity fostered an exciting learning environment.
I did do more serious things as a teacher - like teaching reading and writing, my favorite subjects. As part of the language arts curriculum team, I piloted a special writing project for our school system in Connecticut. In Ohio, I coached and judged the middle school writing competition, Power of the Pen. |
Adventures
When I got married, my husband had a job that took us away from Connecticut. Instead of reading about faraway places, I was living in them. We resided in Hong Kong for a few years and traveled throughout Asia. That was before email! So every month, I sent a story by fax to our friends and families, sharing my real life adventures.
Along with our three adult children and their spouses, we have another amazing daughter who joined our family from Rwanda, Africa. I haven’t been there yet, but Africa is definitely on my bucket list. |
Today, I live in a quaint little town in Ohio where my computer and I are busy creating picture books, early readers, and magazine articles.
